Violet’s Story

Back to Case Studies
Violet is wearing a pink jumper and is stood in front of large windows.

“Since starting College, I have become much more confident and independent.”

Joining Truro and Penwith College has helped Violet become more confident, independent and ready to embrace new opportunities.

One of the biggest milestones in her College journey has been joining the Student Council, where she wanted to represent students who may not always feel confident speaking up for themselves.

Her dedication to supporting others was recognised when she received the Outstanding Contribution to Others award at the Truro and Roseland Learning Community Awards, an achievement she is incredibly proud of.

Outside of her role on the Student Council, Violet enjoys the independence that College life brings.

“One of the things I enjoy most is the independence and freedom compared to school,” she said. “I’ve become much more confident and independent since starting College.”

She also enjoys making the most of campus life, including visiting the different cafés and spending time with friends between lessons.

The variety of the Progression Pathways course is another highlight of Violet’s experience. Studying subjects including Performing Arts, Maths and My Skills, My Future means every week offers something different while helping her develop a broad range of skills.

“The variety of the course keeps every week interesting and gives me lots of opportunities to learn.”

Violet says the support from her lecturers has played an important role in helping her succeed.

“My teachers are supportive and make lessons enjoyable. I know I can always go to them if I need help or guidance.”

Looking ahead, Violet is excited to continue building on everything she has achieved so far. As she progresses into her third year, she is looking forward to gaining more work experience within the community while continuing to grow in confidence and independence.

For Violet, College has become much more than a place to learn. It has given her the confidence to find her voice, support others and prepare for an exciting future.
