“This course is the beginning of something big.”
Name: Sharon
Course: T Level Health
Next steps: A career in healthcare
My Story
Sharon’s journey into health and social care took a different route. Having moved from Nigeria to Cornwall in 2024, she brought with her a strong desire to enter the healthcare profession.
She enrolled on the T Level Health course at Truro College. Her first work placement was in a local care home, where she began to develop essential skills such as patient communication, care routines, and professional boundaries.
“Placement really opened my eyes,” Sharon said. “It was new to me, and I learned so much about how to care for others and work as part of a team.”
Following this, Sharon transitioned into a placement at the Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust, where she’s been able to deepen her understanding of clinical practice and experience life inside a hospital.
“The hospital placement has been amazing,” she said. “It’s given me a chance to work in a real healthcare setting and apply everything I’ve been learning in college. It’s also shown me how important soft skills are, including talking, listening, and working with others.”
Sharon speaks highly of how the course has helped her develop her confidence: “When I started, I was quite shy and unsure. But now, I feel more capable and confident. The college environment is friendly, and I feel like I’m becoming the kind of person I want to be.”
