A thriving entrepreneurial venture has blended seamlessly with academic achievement for a degree level student at the University Centre Truro and Penwith.
Madeleine Trestrail studied BA (Hons) Human Behavioural Studies at the Penwith Campus of the University Centre, and since graduating in 2022 has channelled her passion for wellbeing and mental health into establishing and managing The Art Cafe in Penzance.
The cafe has now become not just a place to grab a bite for residents, it’s a haven for positive living, embodying a commitment to local produce, sustainable practices, and minimal waste.
Madeline speaks highly of how her time at the University Centre on the Penwith campus helped to prepare her to take on her new venture, allowing her to find a safe space that encouraged personal growth, shaping her into the person she is today.
“I really value my time at Penwith for helping shape me into the person I am today,” she said. “It helped me grow and provided me with a constant safe space. Staff never gave up on me or my education and I will always be thankful to them.”
The vision for the cafe extends beyond culinary delights, aiming to create an environment that fosters wellbeing and community connection.
Madeleine explains: “The Art Cafe places focus on positive wellbeing. I oversee every aspect of the cafe and am trying to provide a holistic eatery, connecting to the community and making the cafe a safe space for everyone.”
Alongside running the café, Madeleine is continuing to pursue her passion for wellbeing and helping others training to be a counsellor.
