our Public value statement
The College seeks to enhance the social, economic and physical wellbeing of the community it serves.
Socially, the College promotes inclusion and opposes discrimination. By developing positive action strategies and policies it enables all residents of Cornwall equal access to the College facilities and activities.
The College values every educational aim of every student equally and seeks to raise the aspirations of its students and staff so that each may make the maximum contribution to the community.
Economically, the College supports local businesses and provides a broad range of learning to maximise the skills and knowledge of students. It engages with local employers to meet the needs of businesses and non-commercial partners.
The College understands its environmental responsibilities, actively promotes a sustainable approach to its activities and encourages community use of its facilities.
Safeguarding
Section 175 of the Education Act 2002 gives maintained schools and colleges a statutory duty to promote and safeguard the welfare of children, and have due regard to the DCFS guidance ‘Safeguarding Children and Safer Recruitment in Education’ and the Children Act 1989 and 2004 Guidance.
Truro and Penwith College recognises that it has a duty to ensure arrangements are in place for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and we will carry out this duty through our teaching and learning, pastoral care and extended college activities.
Accountability Statement
The Accountability Statement outlines how we will respond to the local, regional, and national skills priorities and how we will continually develop the skills necessary through qualification-based study, a wide range of enrichment activity and employer engagement to ensure that our learners progress successfully into higher level study, training or employment.
The continual evaluation of the College’s curriculum offer will ensure that it is purposeful and reflects the knowledge and skills requirements identified by employers and stakeholders and provide the correct levels of stretch and challenge preparing individuals for their next steps.
