Signalong – Foundation course

Learn how to sign and practice using up to 360 keyword signs in this supportive and interactive workshop for learners who are actively supporting children or learners with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities {SEND) and/or communication difficulties and who have a basic awareness of using keyword signs.  The Foundation Course will cover the history, philosophy and methodology of Signalong, with learners learning about a total communication approach, keyword signing, the signing window, placement of signs, how to form name signs, basic and additional handshapes  and  how  to  perform  up  to  360 keyword signs from the Signalong vocabulary. Generalisation and symbolic understanding within the context of introducing keyword Signalong signs will be explored in detail and skills required to read and produce a sign from any Signalong Manual will be provided.

The Signalong Foundation Course is suitable for practitioners from a range of early years' and school based settings, including pre-school as well as practitioners from health, the lifelong learning or care sector, and parents of children or young people with SEND and/or communication difficulties.
