Truro and Penwith College is celebrating another national award as a continued recognition of delivering the best careers advice and support to its learners for 30 years.

The college has retained the prestigious ‘Quality in Careers Standard Award’, marking three decades of successfully guiding students towards future careers.

Continuously achieved since 1996, this award, coupled with The international Matrix Quality Standard accreditation achieved last year, demonstrates the College has met the Department of Education (DfE) strict guidance, hitting all 8 Gatsby benchmarks, for the quality and breadth of careers support by delivering independent, impartial advice and guidance (IAG), to its learners.

The careers team continually looked for new ways to engage and help students.

During the recent assessment, the evaluators praised the College for a clear strategic vision, commitment, and effective management of the careers programme led by the Principal, Governing Body and SLT, for the benefit of their students.

Despite holding the award for 30 years, the assessors were delighted to see the careers team continually looked for new ways to engage and help students through their journey to find the best opportunities for them and highlighted the College’s engagement with local and national projects.

Speaking to the students, the assessors were impressed by the way they spoke confidently about their progression routes after College and the range of learning opportunities open to them through a wide range of key stake holders.

The (DfE) recently awarded the College ‘Expert Status’ for its Apprenticeship delivery, the only College to achieve this in Devon and Cornwall. The assessors agreed with the status award concluding all Apprentices have timely CEIAG input throughout their training programmes and tutors receive regular training to ensure their trainees are suitably challenged to identify their career learning.

Commenting on the College’s continued success Tim Moody, Careers Lead for Truro and Penwith College, said:

“I’m delighted we have this award for another 3 years and this is something that Truro & Penwith College has held since 1996 – so this will see us to the 30-year mark!

“Many thanks to those who have contributed – it really is a cross college effort that ensures that we hit all 8 Gatsby benchmarks.”
