Apprentices and employers in Cornwall are being encouraged to come forward to share their experiences and contribution to the local workforce, through a new Project 50 initiative.

The South West Apprenticeships Ambassador Network is collaborating with Cornwall College, Duchy College, Falmouth Marine School, Truro and Penwith College and the Career Hub on an ambitious campaign designed to harness the ‘Power of People’ by increasing the number of apprentice and employer ambassadors across the country, with a special focus on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

During the National Apprenticeship Week, colleges in Cornwall are calling on apprentices and their employers to become ambassadors, to shine light on the critical role apprenticeships play in developing talent and driving business growth.

At the heart of Project 50 lies a commitment to collaboration. Cornwall College, Duchy College, Falmouth Marine School, Truro and Penwith College and the Project 50 partnerships aim to connect with key stakeholders to expand the network, showcase the benefits and engage with the local community through strategic events.

“We believe in the transformative power of apprenticeships, not just for individuals but for entire communities and industries,” said Principal and CEO of The Cornwall College Group, Rob Bosworth.

Commenting on the exciting opportunities arising from this initiative, Rob added: “Through this project, we aim to amplify the voices of those who have experienced these benefits first-hand, inspiring others to follow in their footsteps.”

For Principal of Truro and Penwith College, Martin Tucker, this is a chance to highlight local talent. He said: “We encourage current apprentices and their employers to get on board with Project 50 and share their experiences with organisations and individuals who may be considering recruiting or becoming an apprentice.”

Martin continued: “The Apprenticeship Ambassador Network will offer fantastic opportunities to promote the value of apprenticeships to schools, careers advisers, parents and businesses and, in doing so, provide additional professional and personal development for Cornwall’s apprentice community.”

By focusing on small and medium-sized enterprises, Project 50 highlights the crucial role smaller businesses play in developing the workforce of the future.

SMEs often serve as incubators for talent, and the project seeks to unlock their potential by ensuring apprenticeships remain accessible and impactful.

The Project 50 collaboration invites businesses, apprentices and stakeholders to join forces in the upcoming events, the first one due to take place on Thursday 6th of March 2025 at Scorrier House, Redruth between 3pm and 5pm.
