Local business, art societies, friends and family gathered in Truro city centre to celebrate Cornwall’s young creative talent.
Featuring the final exam work of the inspiring artists of Truro and Penwith College and University Centre Truro and Penwith, the Art and Design show, Making Your Mark, was extra special this year as it was dedicated to the Art and Design team leader, Mark Dunford, who is retiring from the college this year.
Mark, a successful professional artist with his work exhibited around the world, had this advice for his young proteges as he transitions into retirement.
“Have courage, believe in what you are doing. Remain in touch with your network of friends.”
You could see the belief and courage of the young aspiring artists, echoing Mark’s words, running throughout the designs and creative work on display.
From fine art to fashion and textiles, graphic design to ceramics and jewellery designs, the 17th annual exhibition by the College called, ‘Stunning as Ever,’ by Truro Arts Society, wowed showgoers.
During a private view attended by 900+, the prize winners all gathered on stage to collect their awards by Truro College alumna and professional artists Alice Ellis Bray, before remembering Marks advice and networking with the businesses which support the future of Art and Design in Cornwall.
As you will see from the images, thanks to Mark and his team, the future of creative talent in Cornwall is looking bright with some students selling and commissioning work following the show, we know these young artists will start ‘Making their Mark’ very soon.
