The University Centre Truro & Penwith is proud to announce the introduction of the Level 4 Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Construction and the Built Environment. This will support the industry in obtaining the skills required to meet the local, regional and national skills gap.
The course has been developed around the needs of the industry and in collaboration with local employers, which will be taught in the outstanding facilities at the Truro campus. The HNC will be delivered to industry standards by lecturers who are extremely experienced, bringing a wealth of knowledge to the classroom from their time working in the construction industry.
The UK has recently been experiencing its largest skills gap in construction and there has never been a more important time to enable growth within the sector. The government have stated that by 2030, the UK will be short of approximately 500,000 skilled workers to meet industry demand.
Richard Billington, programme lead for the new HNC course at the University Centre Truro & Penwith, said: “Studying the Construction and Built Environment HNC at Truro and Penwith is a perfect choice for those wanting to continue their education through applied learning.
“The course will develop and challenge learner’s knowledge, understanding and skills whilst providing an experience of the breadth and depth of the sector. This will open doors to a range of technical, professional and management careers, such as architectural technology, building surveying, building control and project management.”
The brand new HNC is an addition to the outstanding training currently available at Truro and Penwith College, which offers Construction Diplomas, apprenticeships and T Levels. The new course will provide a progression route for those studying Level 3 courses wishing to continue their education in Cornwall.
