Cornwall residents spring to success in the new year with free training courses provided by Truro and Penwith College.

Free workshops are being offered this spring by Truro and Penwith College’s Future Skills Institute, which aims to help adults develop skills in areas such as leadership, mentoring, and project management.

The College has delivered funded workshops since 2021 and to date has successfully supported professionals from a range of key sectors and businesses to upskill in areas that meet the demands of local employers and equipping the workforce in Cornwall with industry-led knowledge.

Paul Keene, Deputy Team Leader of Future Skills delivery at the College, said: “Spring is the ideal time to turn career resolutions into meaningful action. These workshops offer Cornwall’s professionals the opportunity to develop essential skills, boost their confidence, and take significant steps toward achieving their goals in 2025.”

The new wave of fully funded workshops, which include business skills and leadership and management training, will take place from January to April and have been devised to support Cornwall’s professionals in upskilling.

The sessions range from one-day workshops to week-long programmes and have been made possible through funding from local and national sources that focus on job creation, career development, and skills enhancement.

The professional masterclasses form part of the College’s continued commitment to support the local community in their quest for personal and professional growth.

A programme of ten workshops, run from the College Truro Campus, Tregye Campus and STEM and Health Skills Centre in Bodmin, demonstrates a continuing commitment to provide Cornwall with high-quality, professional development training.

Tregye Campus, located between Truro and Falmouth.                 STEM and Health Skills Centre in Bodmin.

The courses include Effective Mentoring of Apprentices and New Starters, Introduction to Coaching and Mentoring, Minute Taking, Presenting with Confidence, Assertiveness and Challenging Conversations, Leadership and Management Taster, Effective Time Management, Project Management 101 and Developing Confidence and Resilience.

These workshops, developed in conjunction with employers, will equip learners with immediately relevant workplace skills. Indeed, many who took part in the previous series were able to use their new skills to gain promotion or explore new career opportunities.

Charli Styles, Programme Team Leader for Future Skills at Truro and Penwith College, added: “We’re excited to launch our Spring Workshops, tailored to address the changing needs of professionals in Cornwall. These programmes provide an excellent opportunity to develop new skills and gain valuable insights that can make a real difference in your career journey.”

By continuing its free workshop offerings, the Future Skills Institute is helping local residents develop the skills they need to succeed in the ever-changing job market.
