Hundreds of Truro College students will be making their mark as they descend on Truro’s Lemon Quay for a five-day Art & Design exhibition as they aim to intrigue and stimulate imaginations while promoting creativity and raising funds for a local mental health charity, before embarking on their exciting futures in the Art & Design industry.
The College’s seventeenth annual Art and Design exhibition, ‘Making your Mark’, will be the first time many of the student’s work has been displayed publicly and is the only occasion where work from all age ranges and levels across the College including 16-18, University Centre and Adult learners, will be brought together in a 51-metre marquee.
The outstanding display of talent will showcase the broad creative choice offered by the Art and Design department at Truro College, from Fashion, Graphic Design, Silversmithing & Jewellery and Fine Art to Ceramics, 3D Design, Textiles, Printmaking, Life Drawing and Animation.
The exhibition will be open to the public from Tuesday 21 May until Saturday 25 May; entry is free. Students have produced postcards of their artwork and will be taking voluntary donations for the Invictus Trust, a Cornish charity that provides support to teenagers who may be suffering from poor mental health and associated issues.
A Private View and award ceremony will be held on Wednesday 22 May, which is supported by local businesses and organisations to celebrate the students’ achievements, both in terms of the quality of their work and their successful futures, with many already securing places at university or work within the industry.
Mark Dunford, Programme Team Leader of Art and Design at the College commented: “Art and design can make a mark on all of our lives as it gives beauty, provokes thought, provides useful design and the advancement of ideas and capabilities. Our team consists of students, lecturers, makers, artists, and designers who develop their craft alongside their teaching while striving to develop our artists and makers of the future.
“The aim of Making Your Mark is to celebrate and share the Art and Design work created at Truro College and to continue exhibiting the achievements of our students in an accessible arena in the city of Truro. Visitors of all ages will be uplifted by the quality of ideas, invention and diversity and it will provide an insight into the marks made by students as they prepare for their futures.
“The large marquee will provide a highly visible temporary gallery, right in the heart of our community; providing everyone with a unique insight and opportunity to enjoy the highly creative and individual work made by the College’s students. This exhibition will mark the diversity and innovation from all our courses”.
Making Your Mark is open to the public from Tuesday 21 May 11am-5:30pm, Wednesday 22 May to Friday 24 May 9am-5:30pm and Saturday 25 May 9am-4pm. Staff and students from Truro College will be on hand all week to answer questions about the work or help those looking to find the right Art and Design course for them.
