New £5 million investment announced to boost skills, tackle unemployment and support career change in Cornwall in support of key industries identified in the county’s local skills improvement plan.
Truro and Penwith College has embraced the opportunity to deliver Skills Bootcamps since 2021 and to date has successfully supported over 100 adult learners to complete these intensive re-training or upskilling programmes in areas where there are acute local workforce challenges, having been awarded contracts to deliver the innovative training by Devon County Council.
Having enhanced its previous range of Skills Bootcamps with new programmes in Retrofit Readiness, Property Maintenance and Future Leaders to offer seven Skills Bootcamps in total, the College is inviting interested learners to attend a free Taster Day for each programme to discover more and decide if its right for them.
Open to adults aged 19 or over, these courses are designed to enhance skills and improve employability. Notably, individuals seeking new employment are guaranteed the offer of a job interview with a local employer upon completion.
At Truro and Penwith College, the Skills Bootcamps provide fully-funded or low-cost intensive training opportunities to support adults in accessing employment or advancing their careers in alignment with local business demands. With a focus on hands-on, practical learning rather than theoretical knowledge, the Skills Bootcamps offer an approach to learning that is particularly beneficial for industries like Hospitality, Health & Social Care, Marketing, and Engineering, where practical skills are highly valued.
Skills Bootcamps are suitable for individuals looking to enter a new industry, advance their careers, or update their skills to meet the demands of a changing job market. This includes recent graduates, career changers, and professionals looking to stay competitive in their field. They are designed to provide intensive, focused training in specific skill sets over a short period. This rapid acquisition of skills allows individuals to quickly transition into new careers or advance in their current ones.
Thanks to funding from the Department for Education, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are only required to cover 10% of course fees, while larger organisations contribute 30%. For independent or self-employed learners seeking re-training or upskilling, the programme is fully funded. Comprehensive details regarding course fees can be found on the Application Page.
A Taster Day has been organised for each Skills Bootcamp to allow potential learners to meet with the teaching teams and find out more about the course content. For further details, or to register for a Taster Day, please use the email below:
