WHAT WILL I LEARN?
Core Maths builds upon and strengthens existing skills developed during the GCSE Maths course. There is a sharp focus on problem-solving and using and applying mathematics to solve problems relevant to students’ everyday lives. This includes financial applications of mathematics such as tax, national insurance and mortgages. Fermi estimations is another popular module.
WHERE WILL IT TAKE ME?
A qualification in Core Maths is valued by many universities and employers. The skills developed in Mathematics are increasingly important in the workplace and in Higher Education. Universities, Colleges and employers have welcomed the new Core Maths qualification as students will be better equipped with the skills required for many degree courses and employment.
Assessment Arrangements
Core Maths is assessed over 2 exams, each consisting of 60 marks. There is no coursework element.
