What will I learn

A BTEC in Health and Social Care is a recognised pathway to work or further study within a sector that offers a range of exciting and rewarding careers. Our Level 1 Course will support you to develop both personally and professionally and give you an introduction to a range of careers within the sector. You will cover skills and topics including care values, effective communication, teamworking, and promoting health and well-being.

Maths and English are key elements of any full-time study in College. If you do not already have a GCSE at grades 9 – 4 in these subjects you will be required to attend additional lessons in these areas. These are varied study sessions and are designed to cater for all ability levels. You will receive advice and guidance regarding the correct level for you.

Skills in maths and English will support your future, assisting you with assignment writing, research, job applications, presentations, managing your own finances and interpretation of data, to mention just a few. Employers are looking for ability in these areas and the majority of university courses require you to have good maths and English GCSEs which is why the development of these skills is so important, whatever you do.

Where will it take me

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to progress onto opportunities such as support work, health care assistants and apprenticeships.

Previous students who have achieved the required grades have taken the opportunity to continue their studies onto our Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care.

Assessment Arrangements

Your learning will be through lectures and practical sessions including trips and visits. You will be expected to undertake research, attend visits to health and social care settings and create presentations and projects.

Your achievement on this course is dependent upon excellent attendance, punctuality, ability to meet deadlines and commitment. You will learn in a friendly atmosphere, using a variety of assessment methods including:
