What can I expect?
An initial round of open invitation try-outs in our Games Development suite will be your first step towards joining a College squad, with different teams that specialise in specific online titles. You may want to practice your sniper skills in Counter Strike, deck build in Hearthstone or jump into the thick of it in Overwatch.
The eSports Academy will join competitions based on the skills of each year's squad and will give you the chance to represent the College in a game that challenges and excites you. Develop skills such as communication, leadership, strategic thinking, problem-solving and decision making, as well as crucial IT and cyber skills.
Working in tandem with the British eSport Council, we hope to create a team that will snatch trophies and give you a rewarding experience with like-minded students. You will take part in strategy and practice sessions with tournaments taking place at different times throughout the term with potential trips to National finals, depending on your success.
When I joined College last year, I didn’t have much experience of playing Overwatch and spent my first year learning the game and the characters. This year I’m the captain. I am a computer games design student and I want a career in either Game Art or eSports. The Academy is a lot of fun and is open to everyone in College, not just games’ students. We play competitively against other schools and colleges in a league.
