Reimagine your future with an Access to HE Diploma - a stepping stone to university and a new career

Courses available at our campuses in Truro, Bodmin and Penzance.

Thinking about getting back into education? Would you like to know more about ACCESS to Higher Education Diplomas and University study?

This FREE session is aimed at adults who are lacking the qualifications needed to study a degree, HND/HNC or equivalent qualification in a higher education institution.

The taster day is an opportunity to take part in a workshop which includes an activity that will give you an insight into what it is like to be an Access student. You will also find out more about course structure, content and assessments, course funding, the adult bursary and student support. If you require more information about GCSE or Functional Skills maths and/or English, staff will also be available to provide more information.

Schedule

Location: Fal Building (Truro campus)
On arrival, please sign in at Fal reception

9.45am – 10am Welcome
10am – 10.30am Welcome Talk
10.30am – 11.50am Session 1 – Diploma Workshops
11.50am – 12.10pm College Tour
12.10pm – 12.40pm Session 2 – Study Skills
12.40pm – 1.30pm Student Support
1.30pm Depart

Parking: Onsite parking is limited, and a parking permit is required. Please use the park and ride at Threemilestone which is a short distance walk from the College. If you are a blue badge holder parking is available onsite, but you must validate your parking when you arrive in the Fal building (unregistered vehicles will receive a fine).

What is an ACCESS Diploma?

These courses provide learners with a step-up to Higher Education by giving them the necessary grounding and qualifications for progression to University Courses. This route provides excellent study skills in specific subject areas, giving people the confidence to succeed.

  • Excellent levels of personal support and learning support
  • Most learners are eligible for full fee remission or an advanced learner loan which is written off after completing a higher education course.
  • An adult bursary is available if you are aged 19+ and your household annual income is below £25,000.

Course fee

If you are aged 19-23 at the start of the course, and do not hold a full level 3 qualification, you could be fully funded for your Access to HE Diploma.

If you are 19-23, and hold a full level 3 qualification, or over 24 you could choose to self-fund or use an Advanced Learner Loan from student finance England. The loan is written off if you complete the access course followed by a university level course.

Adult bursary

If your household annual income is below £25,000 you could be eligible for a free bus pass or a fuel allowance, help towards the cost of childcare, a meal voucher whilst attending college and an attendance bursary.
