Jewellery

Monday or Tuesday

Creating Celtic style bangles and rings or piercing (sawing) out a design from a copper sheet such as a leaping hare or a rose, adding texture and more. Such techniques will enable you to create something quite unique whilst gaining experience of the jewellery workshop, tools and techniques, and leave with something personally made by you.

Puppet Making

Monday or Friday

Create your own unique hand puppet. You will design the head of a character before using carving and shaping methods to sculpt them out of foam. Once you have learnt the techniques to give your puppet form and movement you can give them further detail with paints, marble eyes and fabric. Finally you will bring your character to life with helpful puppeteering tips.

Textiles

Tuesday

In this fun, textile skills-based workshop, you will learn a range of techniques including sewing skills, resist mark making, patchwork and pom pom making. Combining your design skills with the experimental textile samples created on the day, you will make a fabric sketchbook cover personalised with your own initials. All materials and resources are included and, wherever possible, recycled!

The camera zooms in on hands working a sewing machine. They are sewing pieces of brown and green materials together.

Pottery/Ceramics

Wednesday or Friday

We will start by exploring different textures and surfaces around the College. These textures will be transferred to clay slabs. You will be taught the technique of slab building to build your chosen style of pot, be it a mug, a jug, a desk tidy or vase. You will then decorate your pot with coloured glazes. Through this hands-on ceramics workshop you’ll find out how far your creativity and ideas can take you.

Digital Drawing

Wednesday

This introduction to digital drawing provides learners with the opportunity to experiment with both traditional and digital drawing techniques. Using a graphics tablet, you will learn how to combine these different ways of working to produce a range of character concept designs for a video game.

Printmaking

Thursday

Using patterns and designs, you can experience screen printing and make your own calico tote bag along with a series of prints to compliment it. You will be able to use botanical, geometric, natural and text-based design elements to build your own artworks on fabric and card. You will be able to explore colour through print and surface media to develop interesting and unique pieces of art. Throughout the day you will have multiple opportunities to use several different screens and designs as you develop your skills as a printer.
