Sophie Rollason

Postgraduate Certificate of Education

Sophie Rollason from Penryn, began her teaching career at Truro and Penwith College in performing arts before dedicating teaching hours as a Learning Support Assistant for foundation Studies. It was at this point that she realised that this was her calling.

The students I work with are the most inspiring young people that you will ever meet.

“I like to help people who are passionate about the subject, because everyone deserves to be successful. The students I work with are so inspiring, there is not a day that passes where you don’t smile – they really put life into perspective.”

Presented with Cornwall’s outstanding special education teacher of the year award in April 2017, Sophie continues to inspire young people to make a difference within the community.

Sophie won Special Educational Needs Teacher of the Year at the Cornwall Teacher Awards in 2017

Sophie devotes her free time to teaching dance within community youth groups for 6-18 year olds, such as ‘The Saturday Club’ in Penryn. Sophie also facilitates special education foundation student volunteers to help teach the youth groups at the weekends.

When she was younger Sophie enjoyed her education and loved the teachers at Truro and Penwith College. From the time that she spent there it was evident that her career goals involved being one of those teachers who makes lessons fun and enjoyable for students – much like the experience that she received.

Sophie has completed the full educational journey with Truro and Penwith College from BTEC Performing Arts, FdA Dance and then continuing further to complete her PGCE to qualify as a teacher.

If you show an interest and you’re passionate about what you do, Truro and Penwith College will open the doors for you.

Sophie is planning to stay teaching at Truro and Penwith College in the future but continuing to make valuable links with the community, helping everyone to gain the same opportunities.
