Subjects studied: A Level Psychology, Biology and English Language with the Medics’ Academy
Former school: Roseland Academy, Probus
What’s next: Join The Royal Navy and study a degree in mental health nursing
My story:
Inspired by caring for others, Alice chose to join the Medics’ Academy alongside her A Levels and learn more about the healthcare sector. Her academy and course options helped her to make a decision on a career within the Royal Navy, supporting ex-service men and women.
Alice said: “In the Medics’ Academy, they help people get into healthcare and give you advice for interviews for university. You have talks from specialists and students and GP’s – anyone within that career. They give you lots of advice with how to progress with your career and they support you with your A Level subjects too.
“I’ve been in the process of joining the Royal Navy for the past year. I have done all the tests and interviews. They are going to support me through my university degree in mental health nursing, then I will have four years minimum of serving, where I could be posted anywhere, which is really exciting. I could travel the world with the Navy.
“The Navy support service men and women coming out of the armed forces, so hopefully I can go into anywhere within the mental health area. In the long term, working at a school as a mental health nurse would be really interesting. It’s not talked about enough, and I think if you work with children, it can prevent lots of mental health issues in the future.
“I particularly enjoyed Psychology, there’s certainly a lot more to it. I got on with people from my class really well. You make so many more friends than you think you will because you find that you all have the same interests.
“All the staff are really lovely. They do the best they can to help and the support through lockdown was really impressive.”
