From working in a local supermarket to getting offers to study physiotherapy at university, Cam has been able to pursue his future aspirations with an Access to Science course at Truro and Penwith College.

Name: Cam Cooke

Course: Access to Science

Progression: Physiotherapy at Plymouth University

Prior to enrolling on his Access course, Cam was working as a Customer Assistant at Sainsburys. After being out of education for six years after completing his A Levels, Cam decided to finally pursue his lifelong interest in physiotherapy.

Cam explained: “I’d always had an interest in becoming a physiotherapist, and finally decided to enrol on the Access course to make it happen.

“The things I’ve enjoyed the most about the course is meeting new people and taking the steps to achieve my career aspirations.

“I found all the subjects genuinely interesting.”

Whilst Cam found some aspects of the course, such as managing the stress and workload alongside his job challenging, he continued to put in his all and secured a place at Plymouth University to study MPhysio with an integrated Masters in Physiotherapy, with future hopes to progress to a career in Physiotherapy.

Cam’s advice for students considering a change in career with an Access course is: “You get out what you put in – become organised from the start, develop good work habits and you will be ahead of the game.”

“The Access course taught me how to balance life and education, produce high-quality referenced work and how to evaluate and improve my performance.”
