My Story

Charlotte studied Maths, Fine Art, and English Language at Truro College, achieving impressive results: an A* in English Language, an A in Maths, and an A* in Fine Art. Reflecting on her achievements, she admitted, “I definitely worked really hard, and I enjoyed my subjects.”

Looking ahead, Charlotte plans to take a year to study the Foundation Diploma in Art & Design at the College’s University Centre, using the year to explore her passion for art whilst deciding on her longer-term future path.

“Even if I don’t do art afterwards, I know that I can use this year to do what I enjoy and then figure out what I want to do,” she explained. She credits her teachers for guiding her decisions: “I wouldn’t have known what to do next year if it wasn’t for my teachers, pushing me to pursue my interests, because even though I work hard in my other subjects, I really like art, and it was my passion.”

Charlotte greatly enjoyed her time at college, appreciating the relationships she built and the freedom to pursue her unique mix of subjects: “I really liked my teachers, I liked the relationship we had, they definitely treated us like we were grown, which is really nice, and I liked the freedom and that I could pick my subjects because my dynamic of subjects is quite strange… Maths and Art aren’t two that people necessarily put together. I had creative outlets in Art and English and then maths was formulaic, which I enjoyed and worked well for me.”

When asked about her career plans, Charlotte admitted she is keeping her options open: “I’m not sure, I just like to try as hard as I can where I’m at and then I can go on from there.”

She came to college from St Ives School, choosing the larger campus for its freedom and independence: “I just wanted bigger, more freedom, further from home but still living at home.”

Charlotte’s advice to new students is: “Just really go for what you’re interested in… if you’re doing what you enjoy, you’re so much more likely to do well in it, and find a good balance between working hard and making friends and enjoying the college experience because it’s so different from school.”
