The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) is a professional membership body for accounting personnel who award skills-based accountancy qualifications. It is sponsored by the five major professional accountancy bodies in the UK.
Benefits of gaining AAT qualifications
This popular membership body awards nationally recognised qualifications by employers as tangible evidence of an employee’s competence on work related tasks. By achieving an AAT qualification, you will demonstrate:
- Tangible evidence of your accounting and finance skills
- Your understanding of the latest accounting techniques and their application to the business environment
- Your continuing professional development
The Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting is a five-module programme (comprising 3 mandatory modules and 2 optional modules) and is expected to be completed between one year and 18 months.
Mandatory modules care:
- Accounting Systems and Control
- Interpreting Financial Statements
- Applied Management Accounting
Optional Modules (two to be completed):
- Cash and Credit Management
- Cash and Financial Management
- Audit and Assurance
- Personal Tax
- Business Tax
AAT qualifications are progressive and students are expected to commence at from Level 1/2 onwards, advancing through the levels to gain full AAT membership status. Students wishing to enrol at a higher entry level are subject to interview and diagnostic assessment.
Students must register directly with AAT in order to become an AAT student member. Under the new 2022 AAT Qualification, students will pay a one-off enrolment cost for the qualification they have subscribed to. This will then allow access to this qualification until standards are revised (which is typically every 4-5 years). Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting registration cost is currently £240.
Course fees include tuition fee, textbooks and one assessment of each module. Students who re-take a module will have to pay this as an additional cost.
