WHAT WILL I LEARN?
This qualification is predominantly a practical course, using a variety of teaching methods including discussions, demonstrations, and presentations. The course will support your current skills and help advance them to a higher level, you will develop not only your practical skills but also your theory knowledge too. When attending college, you will work on your own, in pairs and in small groups, practicing techniques within a realistic working environment in well-equipped, purpose-built salons.
WHERE WILL IT TAKE ME?
After Level 3, you can continue with your studies onto Level 4 in Salon Management or gain full-time employment, perhaps in your training salon. Some of the areas you may go on to work in include but are not limited to: Senior Stylist, Salon Manager, Stylist on a Cruise ship, Assessor in education or Brand Representative.
Assessment Arrangements
The grade you achieve in this qualification depends on your attendance, punctuality and effort. You will study in a friendly atmosphere using a variety of assessment methods:
- Most assessments are completed through practical observations of skills and techniques. This will be carried out throughout all your units, as you continuously strive to work towards a competent level of advanced hairdressing services.
- You will be assessed regularly on written theory work that may be conducted within the class, or as a homework activity; feedback will be continuously provided on your progress.
- Mock examinations will also be undertaken on each unit throughout your course preparing you for your endpoint knowledge test.
The elements of assessment are carried out once you have reached the gateway point, this will be decided by your employer and tutors, once you are working to the required standard.
The qualification requires you to sit an End Point Assessment (EPA). This includes:
- A knowledge test
- Practical Observation
- Questioning
- Professional discussion
Entry Requirements
It is advised that you have a Level 2 qualification in Hairdressing or GCSE grade 4 in English and Maths.
The awarding body for this qualification is VTCT.
Information & Support
We encourage you to practice your skills at every opportunity available to you within your salon placement, we also encourage you to utilise the online resources provided by the College for guidance. In addition, we expect you to conduct your own research, during set home study activities to enhance your understanding of products and the science behind hairdressing.

Kit and Uniform will be supplied at the start of the Level 3 Creative Professional Apprenticeship, full advice will be given on these before the start of your course.
Duration 12 Months + 3 months EPA.
