NCFE Extended Diploma for Entry to the Uniformed Services

This Extended Diploma includes elements of both theory and practical work. This course prepares you for the entry tests carried out by the emergency services and armed forces. It will also improve your fitness level, teach you leadership and team building skills.

WHY CHOOSE THIS COURSE?

This course will help you to develop an understanding of the uniformed services which form the cornerstone of our society. Inter-personal skills are at test throughout, and you are actively encouraged to aim towards being confident in looking after yourself; it could be ironing a shirt or leading a team of personnel on Bodmin Moor with map and compass. The skills taught on the course can easily be transferred to management or similar vocations where leadership and decision making are important. You will study a range of units including understanding discipline, leadership and teamwork and expedition skills. During the course you will take on the role of being employed within the uniformed services when completing assignments and activities.

Each assignment will be based around a scenario which reflects tasks and projects that employees would be undertaking in the Uniformed Services working environment. There is also an opportunity to take part in industry recognised additional qualifications which will enhance your experience, skills and employability. The final qualification is equivalent to three A Levels and is well regarded by the uniformed services and Higher Education institutions for progression.

WHERE WILL IT TAKE ME?

This course is highly recommended by the Protective Services employers who liaise closely with us to ensure that we meet their entry requirements. There are opportunities to progress from this course to Higher Education, to study Uniformed Services or related subjects at HND or degree level.

A final grade of Distinction* would equate to 160 UCAS points. Success in the course will benefit any job application you make to one of the Protective Services.

ASSESSMENT ARRANGEMENTS

You will complete written and practical assignments throughout the year upon which your final grade is assessed. You will have continuous feedback from your lecturers on how you are progressing and how to develop your knowledge, understanding and skills. There are no formal exams on this course.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

4 GCSEs at Grade 4 to include either English Language or Literature and/or Maths.

A Level 2 Diploma at Merit in an appropriate subject can also be considered (plus English and/or Maths).

INFORMATION & SUPPORT

Although most lecturers are either former military or emergency services personnel and are always on hand to assist or advise, we encourage all students to conduct independent research on the Uniformed Public Services as part of your studies and career development.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

On your first day, you will be required to bring a pen, a note pad and appropriate sports kit.
