what will i learn?

The units covered include waxing services; make up applications; eyelash and eyebrow tinting services; eyebrow shaping services; manicure, pedicure and nail art treatments; facial treatments; skin type analysis; tanning; consultation techniques and client care; health, safety, and hygiene; anatomy and physiology for beauty therapists.

The qualification’s structure provides you with the flexibility to develop your knowledge, understanding and skills as a beauty therapist.

where will it take me?

While this qualification’s primary purpose is to prepare you for employment as a beautician/beauty specialist, you may choose to develop your skills by undertaking further qualifications in Beauty Therapy at Level 3. Once qualified in Level 2 as a beauty specialist, there are many career opportunities available to you.

Career opportunities include working in commercial beauty salons, working in a retail concession in a department store, or working independently in your own salon/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings.

assessment arrangements

Your achievement in this qualification is dependent upon excellent attendance, punctuality and effort. You will study in a friendly atmosphere, using a variety of assessment methods:

Most of the assessment is completed through practical observations of skills and techniques and this will be carried out throughout all of your units, as you continuously strive to work towards a competent level within your treatments.

This one-year qualification is mainly a practical course using a variety of teaching methods including discussions, demonstrations and presentations. You will work on your own, in pairs and small groups practising techniques in well equipped, purpose-built salons, overlooking the beautiful Mounts Bay and St Michael’s Mount.

You will be assessed regularly on written theory work that may be conducted within the class or as a homework activity and feedback will be continuously provided on your progress. You also will be assessed regularly on treatment terminology.

Your performance will be reviewed 3 times during a 1:1 session with your personal tutor. Mock examinations will also be undertaken on each unit throughout your course.

All units in this qualification are graded Fail/Pass by:

1. Externally set and internally marked, practical assessment through observation

2. Externally set and marked online examinations

entry requirements

The basic requirement is at least three GCSE grade 3 and ideally a grade 4 in Maths or English. If you do not gain grade 4 in Maths or English Language you will need to retake them at College alongside your main course.

information & support

We encourage you to practice your treatments away from College where possible and to utilise the online resources provided by the College for guidance. In addition, we expect you to conduct your own research during set home study activities in relation to completion of assignments. However, we will also offer you opportunities to conduct this research at College.

You will need salon uniform and specific equipment; full advice will be given on these before the start of your course. You will need to order a kit and uniform for your course, and in some cases, may be eligible for a bursary

You will also be offered support and guidance throughout your placement by a work placement officer who will visit you at placement and be onsite to help you.
