Year 10 & 11 Taster Day at Penwith College

A taster day on Thursday 27 June 2024 for students who are in private school, home-based learning or a school which has a sixth form.

Are you a pupil at a school with a sixth form, private school or are you a home-based learner? If so, you may not have had an opportunity to visit Penwith College for a Taster Day where you can meet tutors, tour the campus and have a go at a variety of fun and engaging subject lessons. Lunch is provided.

The deadline for registrations was Friday 21 June. If you have any questions ahead of the event please contact Emma Kelly emmakelly@truro-penwith.ac.uk

Important Information

On arrival, please sign in at Sennen building reception where a representative will be waiting to meet you. The car park is free and plentiful and adjacent to the Sennen building. Please note that parents cannot attend alongside their son or daughter.

The Taster Day is open to young people currently in Year 10 or 11 only and it is only available on Thursday 27 June. It is the parent’s responsibility to inform their son or daughter’s school if they are attending. If your child has any learning support needs, medical needs or access requirements please advise us in advance.

We look forward to welcoming you on 27 June.  Please be aware that there will be other schools present on this day.

9.15am | Welcome

9.30am | Morning Taster Session

11.30am | Talk by Lucy Maggs, Operations Director

12pm | Lunch

12.30pm | Afternoon Taster Session

2pm | Depart

Your choice of taster sessions

On your Taster Day, you will undertake 2 out of your top 3 choices dependent on availability.

A Level Subjects – choose 2 for one session
English – English Literature, English Language, Drama, French
The Arts – Fine Art, Illustration & Graphics, Photography
Back to the Future – History, Economics, Politics, Spanish
World Affairs – Geography, Business, Environmental Science
Social Science – Psychology, Law, Sociology, Philosophy
Big Screen – Film, Media, Drama
STEM 1 – Biology, Chemistry, Applied Science
STEM 2 – Maths, Physics, Computer Science
 
Vocational / Occupational Subjects – choose 1 for one session
Art & Design
Automotive
Business
Childcare / Health & Social Care
Computer Games Design
Construction – Carpentry, Bricklaying, Painting & Decorating – Please wear sturdy shoes.  PPE will be provided.
Hairdressing / Beauty Therapy
Hospitality (inc. Front of House / Cookery)

Music – bring your musical instrument
