Royal Society of British Arts Star Student Prize Winner

Artwork from HND student Felicitas Wagner, winner of the Arts Society West Cornwall Emerging Artist Award has been selected to be showcased at the Royal Over-Seas League in Mayfair, and at The Mall Galleries in London next year. Out of all of the work selected by Arts Societies across the UK and Europe only 20 pieces are selected for both exhibitions.

As part of the Objects of Vertu exhibition held at Penzance School of Art in the summer representatives from the Arts Society West Cornwall selected work by 2 students to be entered into the Royal Society of British Arts Star Student competition. This work was submitted to the Royal Society of British Artists (RBA) along with over 200 other entries from Arts Societies from the UK and Europe. The selection committee at the RBA then had the tough job of whittling those submissions down to the final pieces. This collaboration between the Arts Society, the Royal Society of British Arts, The Mall Galleries and The Royal Over-seas League will culminate in exclusive exhibitions in the spring. Only 20 of the top outstanding works will be displayed at both galleries in London.

John McEvoy from The Arts Society of West Cornwall said, “The Arts Society are thrilled that Felicitas’ work has been selected for the prestigious Star Student Exhibitions."

All of the work that was submitted will have been of a very high standard having been selected by Art Societies across the country.

John McEvoy, The Arts Society of West Cornwall

"To have West Cornwall represented in this exhibition is exceptional and we are delighted to have played our small part in showcasing Felicitas’ work on a national scale which will hopefully enable her to exhibit more widely in the future.”

Martin Tucker, Director of Penwith College said, “We are delighted that Felicitas’ work has been selected for these very special exhibitions. Felicitas is a very talented artist who has a very promising career ahead of her as a professional artist, her work is already very sought after locally. In the press Penzance has had a lot of negativity towards it recently. Penzance and West Cornwall has an artistic heritage going back hundreds of years. We are delighted that Penwith College continues to offer courses to encourage budding artists, young and old, both at Penzance School of Art and on the main campus. Felicitas is one of many students who have excelled in their chosen field here at Penwith College and is a perfect example of one of the shining stars that we have in our community.”
