Varsity basketball tournament first of its kind

The three corners of Cornwall collided recently when three local College met for a varsity basketball tournament to see who would emerge victorious.

Truro College hosted the first basketball tournament between affiliate colleges Callywith and Penwith, giving students the opportunity to come together with some friendly competition. The tournament went down a storm with everyone having a great time. Of course, as with the nature of a tournament one college had to take the prize and this varsity game saw Truro College walk away with gold.

Andy Cummins, who runs the Truro Basketball Academy, thought the tournament was a brilliant day, saying: "It's great that all three colleges now run a basketball programme. Youth basketball is really starting to thrive within the county and with the three colleges now offering regular training opportunities basketball will definitely continue to go from strength to strength while days like this help to promote the sport and encourage forming inter-college relationships."
