Name: Adrian and Bergit Barnett
Job title: Photography & Video Specialists
Company: Barnett Photo Studio
Course: Skills Bootcamp in Digital Marketing

As a married couple with a joint business, Adrian and Bergit sought to enhance their business acumen by enrolling in the Skills Bootcamp in Digital Marketing offered by Truro and Penwith College. Though their careers started differently, they aligned with a shared passion for photography.

Bergit spent over a decade working in the banking sector in Luxembourg before transitioning to a self-employed photographer.

Adrian, with extensive experience in the industry, specialised in fashion-inspired wedding, portrait, theatrical productions and commercial photography. He has produced professional portfolios for models and actors across Europe whose clients include some well-known brands.

The decision to join the Skills Bootcamp was sparked during an Open Day at Truro and Penwith College. Bergit was particularly drawn to the program due to its comprehensive nature, surpassing the depth of a typical day course. Adrian aimed to elevate his business marketing strategies and expand his skill set to offer more to his clients.

The Skills Bootcamp offered a blend of college-based and remote learning sessions, facilitated by specialist tutors. The curriculum covered a comprehensive range of topics and platforms essential for modern digital marketing.

The face-to-face sessions were particularly valued by both Adrian and Bergit. Adrian found them highly interactive and beneficial for discussions, stating, “The in-person days were great, and very interactive and useful for discussion.”

Bergit appreciated the opportunity to meet other business owners and delve into the subject matter in a classroom setting, adding, “The best thing about the course has been meeting other business owners and learning about a subject over a period of time.”

Adrian and Bergit successfully managed to balance the course with their professional and personal lives. Adrian viewed the course as an extension of his professional duties, enhancing his current work. He commented, “I consider this course part of my job as it enhances what I do. I always make a clear distinction between my job and my private time.”

Similarly, Bergit found the time commitment to be manageable, stating, “It was the right amount of time dedicated to the course and still being able to run my business. I always put time aside for self-development.”

The Skills Bootcamp in Digital Marketing provided Adrian and Bergit with enhanced focus and strategic insight into running and marketing their business. The newly acquired skills have not only improved their business operations but also allowed them to offer a wider range of services to their clients. Their journey highlights the importance of adapting to new marketing strategies and technologies to stay competitive in the industry.
