At Penwith College in Penzance, longtime friends from Cape Cornwall School, Grace and Martha are now looking forward to enjoying their Oxford experience together after achieving top grades at A Level.
On Results Day, Grace and Martha were delighted to open their results and see their hard work has paid off with outstanding grades. Grace achieved A*, A*, A for History, Psychology and English Literature and is going to be studying History at Oxford University. Martha achieved four A* for A Level Chemistry, Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Physics and is now going to study Mathematics and Statistics at Oxford University.
During their time at college, Grace and Martha joined the Oxbridge Support Programme, an Enrichment choice available to academic achievers to boost their confidence with the Oxbridge universities, interviewing process and UCAS applications. Both students were paired with mentors as part of the programme which provided one-to-one support and help with personal statements and interviews.
Grace said: “The application process would have been a lot more challenging had it not been for all the amazing Truro and Penwith College staff who aided me in my application, so I am eternally grateful for their help and I would recommend to anyone hoping to apply to either Oxford or Cambridge that they should register their interest, as the College is always there to support you.”
As part of the Oxbridge Support Programme, all students were offered the unique opportunity to experience the universities first hand. This trip was extremely beneficial to students who were still making a final decision on studying at Oxford or Cambridge.
Grace said: “The trip to Oxford was indispensable to my decision to apply there. Getting to experience living in the College and having a taster of what sorts of lectures/seminars I would be getting cemented in my mind that I wanted to do my degree there. I attended one or two Oxbridge talks during ‘Academic Academy’ in the first year- these were accessible to everyone and gave tips on how to apply and what life is like at Oxford and Cambridge!”
