Hometown: Pendeen
Course: FdSc Health and Nutrition
My Story:
After completing the Access to Health and Social Care at Penwith College, Jasmine was looking to progress to University without having to leave Cornwall and realised that she could continue to a degree on the same campus she was currently studying on with the University Centre. As part of her degree, Jasmine took part in a work placement at Beroni Nursing home and has since gained full time employment with them as a Healthcare Assistant which has opened up a range of opportunities. After taking some time to travel after graduation, Jasmine plans to progress onto a Nursing Apprenticeship with Beroni Nursing home.
Jasmine said: “I didn’t want to have to worry about paying so much money, moving away to a new environment. I had the security of being somewhere I know.”
“The classes were small so it was easier to ask questions and have 1 to 1 support.”
“The staff were amazing and the content of the course was quite flexible so our teachers could tailor the content around us.”
“Having my course 2 days per week, meant that I had enough time to work and do assignments outside of coming into Uni”
“The course has unlocked doors for me and given me confidence to continue further.”
“My highlight has been making friends with others on my course.”
Jasmine’s Advice to others would be: “Go for it – You are always capable of more than you think you are.”
