My Story:
After spending 15 years as a sales manager, Kat saw redundancy as an opportunity to go after the career she wanted and began looking at how she could achieve that goal locally. Having previosuly studied her A levels at Truro College, Kat decided to return as a mature students and erolled on the Childhood Education foundation degree at the University Centre as the first step to unlocking her new career.
Kat said: “Being made redundant gave me the kick to do something else, and its what made me come back to studying, so as a mature student, I came back to become a Primary School teacher.”
“My class sizes were small, only 9 or 10 in our group so we could ask more questions and get more out of the sessions on a personal level.”
“The staff were amazing, we got 1:1 and feedback from tutors and they spent time with you, really helping to improve grades and they got to know you.”
“Being at Uni for 2 days per week, I was able to work alongside, and still do my own things. I am a Gig Rower so I could fit that in, which really helped, to have space away from studying and do things you enjoy is really important too, especially when doing things like dissertation writing.”
“I have made some really good friends, we are really close, and they will be lifelong friends, we have spent the last 3 years together, and helped each other through.”
“My advice would be to just go for it, it is hard work, but keep going, it’s worth it!”
“In a years’ time I will be a qualified primary school teacher, I have my placement set up and will be doing my PGCE training with Kernow Learning.”
