My Story
Tansy previously attended Richard Lander school and studied A Levels in Graphics and Illustration, Geography and Geology at Truro College.
Speaking on her A Level experience, Tansy said: “I enjoyed the coursework side where we go away and do independent work. It makes you more independent, which prepares you better for university. You can explore stuff that you want to and broaden your studies further than the curriculum.”
Alongside her A Level study, Tansy took full advantage of the College’s many extracurricular options to enrich her time studying at the Truro campus.
“My favourite part of College was the extracurriculars,” Tansy explained. “I did Photography as part of the College’s Enrichment programme, which I really loved, and I was also a part of the Student Council as well as being a Student Ambassador.
“I really enjoyed being a Student Ambassador because I got to meet all the other amazing Student Ambassadors, and I got to know the College better, so even though I was helping other people, I was learning things myself. It was also something good to put on my CV.”
Tansy also had a responsibility for publicity during her time on the Student Council, which gave her strong skills in communications that stood out when applying for university:
“I was the publicity officer for the Student Council, so I did all the social media.
“Through my role in the Student Council, I also made lots of new friends and got to work at the Fresher’s Fair.”
Tansy is now progressing onto university to study Illustration at Bristol UWE, with a goal to find a related career in the field.
Her advice for future students is: “Definitely just be confident even if you don’t feel it – because that’s the best way to make friends. That’s important for your college experience.”
