Sam Boston

Sam is the programme lead for the new Health and Wellbeing Foundation Degree at our Penwith College campus and also a University Centre Alumni!

Her own journey started on an Access course at Penwith College, Sam then progressed on to her degree with the University Centre and later completed her PGCE, she said: “It is great to be able to give back to the new cohorts of students coming through Higher Education.”

“The University Centre facilities at the Penwith campus are set within beautiful grounds with plenty of green, open spaces. The building designated for Higher Education learning is at a peaceful end of the campus and the wonderful staff and students make teaching there a pleasure.”

A highlight for Sam is the annual graduation ceremony that takes place at Truro Cathedral, she said: “Seeing our students graduate at the end of their journey is always a proud moment for me.”

Giving an insight into the new course, Sam explains: “The FdSc Health & Wellbeing examines factors that affect our health as well as methods that can be used to promote both physical and mental wellbeing. There is now widespread recognition that the promotion of wellbeing is equally as vital as exercise and good diet, and this course offers students the opportunity to study locally for a qualification that they can use within the community either here in Cornwall or further afield.”

Sam’s advice for students is: “Plan your time and start your assignments early. They are all given to you at the start of the year so you can complete parts of the work as you go along which makes it a lot less stressful when the deadlines come around. Also don’t be afraid to ask for help as there is usually someone else in your class struggling with the same thing. The staff are always happy to help!”
