We are one of the highest performing colleges nationally on all courses at all levels, rated Ofsted ‘Outstanding’.
The successful applicant will be responsible for leading a team teaching a range of full and part-time programmes and providing tutorial support to approximately 500 full and part-time students. The area is amongst the highest nationally for uptake of level 3 courses. Full-time courses in this Programme Area include A Levels and IB programmes in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Studies and Geology (approximately 1000 enrolments) alongside an Extended and 90 credit Diploma in Applied Science (approximately 100 enrolments), an Access to HE Science and Medical Careers, and HNC/D Applied Biology. There is also a very successful Medics’ Academy that supports students aiming for progression onto Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary or related health professions and a part-time evening-class programme that includes GCSE Biology and Beekeeping.
Students from the programme area progress predominantly to Higher Education with a very high percentage gaining places at Russell Group universities to study science related courses. Students also progress onto a range of locally based apprenticeship provision. The programme area has some outstanding facilities for the delivery of practical and theory-based lectures.
The Science programme area of Truro College has established a reputation for excellence with very high achievement and local engagement. Initiatives include regional STEM support through the Institute of Physics Lead School status and hosting the Royal Society of Chemistry SW Regional Schools Coordinator. The successful applicant will face the challenge of sustaining and enhancing this already high performing area.
Team leaders are responsible for the quality of provision within their programme area, this includes the curriculum offer and content, teaching and learning, pastoral support, learning resources, recruitment and the overall student experience. It is essential that they lead, support and motivate staff members and build good relationships with stakeholders and employers.
We are seeking applicants with good academic and professional qualifications, appropriate lecturing experience and experience of leadership in an educational context. The successful candidate will be a committed professional who is able to share their enthusiasm with students and staff to deliver a cohesive programme across science courses.
The successful applicant will be required to provide high quality teaching on education programmes and contribute to providing an outstanding learning experience for our students. A commitment to curriculum development and a flexible approach to teaching and learning are required. They will also need to work with confidence with a wide variety of ability levels and project enthusiasm for all aspects of the subject.
