Kynan’s Story

After studying a T Level, Kynan secured a job within the construction industry and would like to progress to higher education.

“Thanks to doing my T Level at the College, I’ve been able to become what I wanted to be, which is an architectural technician.”

Subjects studied: T Level Construction: Design, Surveying and Planning

Former school: Truro College: BTEC Level 1 & 2 in Construction in the Built Environment.

What’s next: Kynan is hoping to take the HNC Level 4 in Construction and the Built Environment at the University Centre Truro & Penwith. He hopes to do this alongside his job with CAD Technicians.

My story:

Kynan knew that he wanted to pursue a career in the construction industry and decided that a T Level would help make this into a reality. The placement as part of the course helped develop his confidence and gave him valuable insight into his chosen career.

Kynan said: “A T Level helps you gain knowledge in a vast array of topics. It’s very diverse and you get a lot of knowledge about all types of engineering. That knowledge will come together when you gain a job or a placement.

“Having a placement alongside the course helped to grow my confidence immensely and gave me a foot in the door. It also helps to make interviews less daunting. I’ve been lucky enough to do multiple placements including a two-week placement at Willmott Dixon and Desmonde Associates.

“I’ve always had enthusiasm to gain as much knowledge as I can to be able to get a career in the construction industry. Thanks to doing my T Level at the College, I’ve been able to become what I wanted to be, which is an architectural technician.

“If you’ve got that enthusiasm, then you’ll breeze through it.”
