Adults across Cornwall are set to benefit from free training courses aimed at enhancing career prospects across the county.
The initiative, delivered through Truro and Penwith College’s Future Skills Institute, features a range of workshops designed to equip adults with the skills and knowledge needed to advance in their current roles or pursue new opportunities. The courses are part of the College’s ongoing effort to support the local community in achieving personal and professional growth.
Scheduled from October to December, the College’s Winter Workshops provide an excellent opportunity for Cornwall’s professionals to develop valuable skills. The fully-funded sessions are made possible through the College’s success in securing funding from various local and national sources aimed at promoting employment, career progression, knowledge and skills.
The workshops, held at Truro and Penwith College’s Truro and Tregye campuses, and the STEM and Health Skills Centre in Bodmin, reflect the College’s ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality professional development training across Cornwall. Returning courses include Assertiveness and Challenging Conversations, Developing Confidence and Resilience, Introduction to Coaching and Mentoring, Effective Time Management, Project Management 101, and Minute Taking. New offerings include Boosting Performance, Psychological Safety in the Workplace, The Coaching Leader, and Presenting with Confidence.
These workshops have been carefully developed in collaboration with employers to provide learners with practical skills that not only enhance their careers but also have a positive impact on their workplaces. Many participants of the previous series utilised their new skills to advance in their current roles or explore further career-enhancing opportunities.
Erin Wake, Shipping and Admin Support for ICE Trikes, commented: “I attended seminars to overcome challenges in assertiveness, challenging conversations, and public speaking. They provided valuable tools for both personal and professional growth, helping me gain confidence and handle difficult situations effectively. The supportive environment made it easier to confront weaknesses. I highly recommend these seminars for anyone seeking self-improvement.”
Following the success of its March Masterclasses and Summer Seminars, the Future Skills Institute at Truro and Penwith College continues to deliver valuable training opportunities.
Charli Styles, Programme Team Leader for Future Skills at Truro and Penwith College, stated: “We are thrilled to introduce our Winter Workshops, designed to meet the evolving needs of Cornwall’s professionals. These programmes offer a fantastic chance for individuals to gain new skills and insights that can significantly impact their career paths.”
Paul Keene, Deputy Team Leader, added: “Keeping up to date with an ever-changing world, is essential for Cornish businesses and we’re excited to add some new professional masterclasses and workshops to our portfolio to support this. These include developing a culture of Psychological Safety in the Workplace and unlocking the potential of The Coaching Leader. By providing these workshops free of charge, we ensure that all professionals, regardless of their circumstances, can benefit from this enriching experience.”
By expanding its workshop offerings, the Future Skills Institute is helping local residents develop their abilities and remain competitive in the ever-changing job market.
