Open event season is in full swing, and you may be wondering what questions to ask at open day or school events, and how to prepare. Check out our handy guide here, to help you feel prepared when you come to an open event!

Firstly, keep in mind that it’s okay to be unsure what you want to do in terms of a career. When you speak to us at your school events or at open days, tell us about your hobbies and favourite subjects you’re studying at school. Chances are, you will be able to study them further at college and figure out what careers are available to you during your time with us. There are also subjects available at college which you may not have been able to study at school that could interest you and get you thinking about future career prospects. There are many facilities at college for you to try, and they’ll all be open to you when you attend open events. These include professional level film cameras and studios, hair and nail salons, electric vehicle labs, construction facilities and much more! There’s plenty for you to try your hand at during open days.

College allows you access to facilities and tech you may not have access to at school. You can try these out at Open Events!

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. We are here to help you and guide you as much as possible towards the course you want to do. At open events, you can ask lecturers what professions their courses lead to, what the course entails and the assessment methods used on their course so you can see if the course is right for you. You can also ask about Enrichment activities you can do alongside your studies, such as sports or extra-curricular clubs. Be sure to take notes so you remember it all for your application later! You can also check out our guide on how to choose your perfect course here, so you can start getting some ideas as to what you want to choose. It’s important to choose the right type of course for you, with an assessment method and topics you will be confident in.

T Levels combine academics in the classroom with a 45-day work placement. It’s great for those who want to learn on the job as well as study in classes.

Our career advisors and admin team are available to speak to at open events if you have solid ideas for your future career that you want to set into motion. They can give you advice for your college interview and what courses would be best for you based on your interests and what career you want to go into. Be sure to look out for them at an open event! You can also take a look at our summary of what will happen at your college interview here.

Our friendly staff are here to support you through every step as a prospective student. We hope to welcome you in September 2024!
