what will I learn?
During the first year, you will be taught the required skills across a range of common Art and Design areas. You will learn how to extend your creative approach to the use and manipulation of a broad range of materials, processes and ‘making’ skills, as well as how to use tools, equipment, and materials appropriate to the required production techniques.
The first year is structured to allow you to shape an individual route to build your practical skills and creative potential through a series of themed projects using a broad range of 2D and 3D media. In addition to the practical work, you will also have the chance to develop your research skills alongside developing your understanding of visual language and how it is used to communicate ideas and concepts in Art and Design. You will also work on assignments to generate evidence, produce contextual and historical research, research idea development and show evidence of creative problem-solving.
In the second year you will then go on to concentrate on developing specialist skills in one or more of these areas, building a portfolio of work that will not only enable you to successfully obtain the qualification but also gain a place at the University of your choice. This course is the ideal preparation for entry into a diverse range of higher education courses and careers within the creative industries.
where will it take me?
The Level 3 Diploma in Creative Practice has been designed to provide you with the skills, knowledge, and understanding necessary to progress to degree level study in Art & Design, or into employment. Your portfolio of work is designed to get you accepted on to a course in higher education such as a BA (Hons) or a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design.
assessment arrangements
Each unit has interim assessment points and a final assessment, which is pass/fail. Your final unit in each year is graded pass, merit, distinction and this will be your yearly grade if all units are successfully completed. There are no exams on the main award; it is all assessed on practical work.Â
Entry Requirements
You will need 4 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above to include either English Language or Literature and/or Maths. A merit on a relevant level 2 diploma can also be considered.
In addition to general entry requirements for L3 Diploma courses, a keen interest in drawing to develop your creativity, as a design stimulus and as a means of gathering creative ideas and making them visible is absolutely essential. Â
Information & Support
Independent practice will be supported through PowerPoints, worksheets and other guides available through our Moodle course. College trips to visit museums and galleries will be offered and we encourage our students to visit galleries both locally and nationally to support their work.Â
