Course: Access to Health and Social Care
Currently Studying: HND Psychology at the University Centre Truro & Penwith
Chantelle worked at Nancalverne school for 10 years before switching career to work in hospitality. During lockdown she decided to do something different and enrolled on the access to Health and Social course at Penwith College.
She said: “I am so pleased I took the plunge and signed up for the access course. I feel like to have started using my whole brain again. Its 25 years ago that I did my BTEC National L3 Diploma in Health and Social care right here at Penwith college.”
“I work with autistic adults alongside my course. Working and studying is hard but I have got back my passion for working with people with additional needs. I got my place at college, and then my new job, it all just fell into place.”
“I am in a group with students aged between 19 and 50, people from all walks of life and with very different educational backgrounds. This course is for everyone. It is intense but the support you receive is great.”
“As part of the course, you take study skills which is invaluable as they walk you through how to write an essay, how to carry out research, how to reference and so much more. These are all skills I haven’t used since I left Penwith College 25 years ago.”
“My advice is to never give up. Life experience is a wonderful thing; being able to do an Access course later in life, drawing on your own experiences and using real examples to reference what you are learning, really helps.”
