Course: BSC (Hons) Operating Department Practitioner

After her apprenticeship, Elly worked in different roles within the hospital, mainly administration based, until she decided to apply for the role of Theatre Assistant and was appointed at the band 2 position in Trauma and Orthopaedic Operating Theatres. It was during this role that she decided to return to education for Level 3 Healthcare Worker with Truro and Penwith College. It was this training that enabled Elly to progress to the next band in her current role.

Elly said: “I thoroughly enjoyed being back in a learning environment and felt that it not only enhanced my abilities as a Theatre Assistant, but it also developed me personally”.

“A few of my more senior colleagues had mentioned to me several times that I should do the ODP training, as they could see potential in my ability.”

“When I heard about the ODP course coming to the University Centre, I did not hesitate for a second and handed in my application.”

“When I was successful in gaining a place on the BSc (Hons) Operating Department Practice programme, I could not believe it, I felt so lucky and privileged. One of the registered staff that had encouraged me to apply said it had made his day.”

“I have enjoyed every single minute of it and I think I will do so for the rest of my training.”

“I look forward to a future in the ODP role and am so pleased that the University Centre, alongside Greenwich University, have given me this opportunity.”
