Jess grew up in a world filled with creativity, with her family owning a gallery in Newlyn and her mother working with stained glass. Jess also had experience running her own business, with a small workshop at home, after teaching herself silversmithing and enamelling.
Jess said: “I live close to the campus, and have a little boy who goes to school in Penzance so it was perfect that I could stay in the area. Location is a big thing for me, and it’s really flexible helping with childcare. The lecturers are fantastic and really understand that I need a flexible schedule.”
“The team are so friendly, I love the building here, it’s so inspiring and you can get creative. Knowing that the HND is good to get into employment, I found it easier to do that rather than move away for a full degree.”
“It’s actually easier coming back into education now. I had no idea what I wanted to do until I went away and got some life experience, working and travelling. I wanted something more permanent and I knew I needed to get educated.”
“The best bit is such friendly tutors, there is such a huge variety of people on the course but Lucy [our tutor] knows how to help everyone with work and in their personal life as well.”
“If you don’t know exactly what you want to do then just come and have a look because you can try everything – the course has pushed into a different idea for working”
“I am very excited to progress onto the HND, it’s great that lots of us on the access will be moving up. I’m looking forward to going into more depth, expanding on existing work over the next two years.”
