Next steps: University of Gloucestershire to study Popular Music
Jess is currently studying A Level Photography, Fashion Textiles, and Music and has secured a place at University of Gloucestershire, with the help of Truro College enabling her to go further. Before going to University to study Popular Music, Jess has been booked for some famous Cornish festivals to perform on stage alongside big name artists. Jess said: “I wouldn’t have had these amazing opportunities or gained confidence if I went any other College.”
The College has many opportunities for students to get involved with. Jess continued: “I came to Truro College as I wanted to do Music, and the College has amazing facilities. My sister also came to the College had a great time.”
“I do not have a family member that is musical. I joined the school band; I was really nervous with performing. I gained confidence through performing more. Coming to Truro College and choosing music was a leap of faith for me. The music course is amazing, and the lecturer Tom is brilliant. I now know what career path I want to take, and I am so confident in myself and my music.”
Jess chose A Levels that cross over and complement each other. Jess added: “I now have made 6 original songs; this is with the help of peers. There is a lot of collaboration, which prepares you for life after education. I use my Photography and Textiles skills to elevate my Music career.”
The power of social media has helped Jess to connect with a range of artists. Jess commented: “I use my social media as my music portfolio, which I interview artists in Cornwall like Daniel Pascoe and Bailey Tomkinson. I was scouted by a Festival and Event Manager from my social media.”
Catch Jess at Tune in the Dunes, Parklive, The Wild Gardens Festival and Charlestown Regatta this Summer!
