My Story:
Kate is a sports massage therapist and was looking for a way to extend her skill set and add to her current knowledge. After attending an open day, Kate enrolled on our FdSc Sports Therapy foundation degree and after graduating from this, she decided to stay studying with the University Centre by taking a top up year to gain her BSc (Hons) Applied Sport and Health Science degree.
Kate said: “I worked so hard over lockdown and got my foundation degree, i thought, I’m not giving up now”
“I have always wanted to do a degree, but family commitments have never allowed for it to happen. I was under the impression I couldn’t afford to do it, I wasn’t aware of funding being available for older students until I came to an open day and spoke to staff at the University Centre.”
“It has been great to meet people with the same mindset, we have really gelled together as a group, everyone has different skills and strengths and everyone has been able to support each-other. Because I work on my own, its been really nice to have that team feeling again and that comradery”
“Staff have always made themselves as available as possible for any concerns and have all been really approachable”
“Having Louise the careers advice lead available, has been great, she goes out of her way to help look for jobs and helps with things like CV writing which at my age can seem really daunting to re-write”
“My courses and the careers advice here has given me the confidence and skills to go further with my education. I look at jobs now and think, I can do that”
