Course: Skills Bootcamp in Digital Marketing

My Story:

Rene, Chief Executive of a domestic abuse charity, wanted to learn new ways to grow her business and future-proof self-employment. She realised the potential existed in Cornwall to expand the Charity’s services digitally by adding online products to complement her existing traditional face-to-face services.

Rene works with her family to benefit the community, delivering animal-assisted therapy to children in Cornwall since 2010 and supporting families in refuges, foster care, and adoption, in the community and educational environments.

Rene wanted to learn newer ways of growing her business and future-proofing self-employment by looking at ways to add online products to complement her existing traditional face-to-face services.

After researching options, she saw the Skills Bootcamp in Digital Marketing advertised and attended a taster session to meet the tutors and learn about the bootcamp. She then completed a guidance session with an advisor to determine whether the bootcamp was right for her and her business. Together they decided that the course would be the ideal fit for her needs as it would help her identify a gap in her business strategy.

“At the start, I wanted to move my business into the digital world,” Rene shared. “This course gave me the basic tools to begin a new chapter in my business journey.”

As part of the Skills Bootcamp in Digital Marketing, Rene developed a marketing plan, focusing on the training aspect of the business. This involved creating marketing objectives, key messages, and identifying distribution channels.

The bootcamp has expanded Rene’s understanding of how to use social media effectively, how to create an action plan for digital marketing strategies and how to raise awareness through various digital channels.

The interactive lessons helped reinforce her learning, and the supportive encouragement from the team made the process enjoyable.

When asked what the best thing about the course was, Rene commented, “I appreciated the opportunity to ask questions relevant to my needs. The tutors were engaging, interested, and encouraging.”

On reflection, Rene appreciated the flexibility of the course and the opportunity to ask questions directly relevant to her business.  The course provided her not only with the technical knowledge she needed but also the confidence to use digital tools in a way that would directly benefit the organisation.

Rene’s next step? To click her way to even greater success with her online services.

Having been self-employed for many years, Rene sees this set of newly acquired skills as important for continued success in the digital era. She is excited about how the knowledge from the bootcamp will help her remain self-employed, at the same time expanding her charity’s influence and improving service delivery.

With a click of a button, Rene’s charity is ready to make a bigger impact online. In her future, she intends to develop an online dimension for her practice to be able to reach out and help many people within an extensive community.

For anyone considering taking up a course in digital marketing, the advice is simple from Rene: “Go for it! Take one step at a time.”

Rene’s digital marketing strategy is now all systems. She was grateful to the team leading the Skills Bootcamp in Digital Marketing at Truro and Penwith College for the opportunity.
