Jack, a committed member of Falmouth Town Council, recently completed the ILM Level 2 Award in Leadership and Team Skills. After a long break from formal education, this in-person course provided an excellent opportunity for Jack to refresh his leadership knowledge and engage with fellow professionals. The course, known for its practical and interactive approach, allowed Jack to reflect on his personal strengths and areas for development, shaping him into a more effective team leader.

The training programme was designed to cover a wide range of skills and knowledge, with an emphasis on leadership development. Jack found the content both interesting and varied, delivered in a way that was not only enjoyable but also highly engaging.

One of the standout moments of the course for him was a unit that focused on self-analysis. It required him to examine both his positive and negative traits, particularly those that could impact his performance as a team leader. “This was extremely eye-opening,” Jack explained. “It has really had a positive impact on me going forward. Understanding where I can improve has been invaluable in shaping how I approach leadership roles.”

Jack’s experience was greatly enhanced by the support he received from the College and from his manager. His tutor, Paula, played a pivotal role in the success of his training. Jack described Paula as “an absolute joy” to work with, highlighting her engaging teaching style and her unwavering support throughout the course.

“Paula is extremely supportive and helpful,” Jack remarked. “She made the course enjoyable and ensured I was always confident in my ability to succeed. I’m already looking forward to sitting the ILM Level 3 course with Paula in January.”

Jack also benefited from the guidance of his line manager, Simon, who has been with him at Falmouth Town Council for nearly a decade. Simon’s leadership has had a lasting influence on Jack’s career.

“I’ve learned so much from Simon,” Jack said. “His management style is a perfect example of how decent, supportive, and kind leadership can bring out the best in people. Over the years, Simon has backed me 100%, and his support was crucial during this course. He gave me a concise overview of my strengths and weaknesses, which was incredibly helpful in shaping my development.”

Simon was equally supportive of Jack’s growth throughout the course, recognising the positive changes in Jack’s leadership abilities. “It’s been fantastic to see Jack grow through his leadership training at Truro and Penwith College,” Simon commented. “His commitment to self-improvement and his ability to reflect on his strengths and areas for development will undoubtedly make him an even stronger leader. I fully support Jack’s ambitions and look forward to seeing him continue to progress in his career.”

The Level 2 Leadership and Team Skills course has had a profound impact on Jack’s career. The training has not only increased his confidence in his leadership abilities but also enhanced his skill set. He now feels much more equipped to take on leadership responsibilities and build stronger relationships with his colleagues.

This was Jack’s first course with Truro and Penwith College, and he was thoroughly impressed with the quality of the service provided.

“The College is so well-organised, and the communication throughout was excellent,” Jack noted. “Tregye Campus is in a beautiful location, and the facilities are great. It’s a relaxed environment that makes learning easy and enjoyable.”

Jack’s positive experience at Truro and Penwith College has left him eager to continue his educational journey with them, confident that he is in good hands as he works toward the next stage in his career.

Completing the ILM Level 2 Award Leadership and Team Skills has not only boosted Jack’s self-confidence but has also strengthened his leadership abilities. His journey through the course has been transformative, both professionally and personally, providing him with valuable insights and a renewed sense of confidence as he moves forward in his career.
