Scott, Senior Tendering Engineer at Saint Columb-based, water utility company Eliquo Hydrok has recently completed a series of One-To-One Coaching sessions with one of the College’s expert Leadership and Management Coaches.
Part of the College’s Bespoke Training Solutions, industry expert tutors worked with Scott and his employer to develop the coaching sessions to tackle workplace challenges.
Scott found the coaching sessions hugely rewarding and has seen a vast improvement in his ability to manage workload and stresses at work by applying the techniques he has learnt.
Scott commented: “I feel like I am now more aware of myself and how I’m feeling, which is enabling me to react more calmly and more positively to stressful situations at work. I’ve also found working relationships to be easier.
“The coaching has set me up not only in my career with my current employer, but also given me advice and skills that I can take forward for the rest of my life.”
As professionals climb the career ladder, assuming positions of greater responsibility and authority, they often face increased pressure to deliver results, manage complex situations, make critical decisions and handle multiple demands simultaneously.
The College’s one-to-one monthly coaching sessions gave Scott the opportunity to discuss any difficulties and learn alternative ways of thinking so that he changed his own behaviour to influence future outcomes.
One-to-one coaching sessions are entirely learner-led with a view to help learners focus on goals such as becoming more self-reliant, gaining confidence, overcoming challenges and applying new approaches in the workplace.
Paul Keene, Deputy Team Leader for Future Skills Delivery at the Future Skills Institute, Truro and Penwith College said: “It is the learner who generates the content then, as a coach, it is my role to help them uncover the learning from this to inform their future actions.”
Workplace coaching is acknowledged as being a highly effective way of improving performance and developing leadership and management capability and confidence.
