Whilst studying her Education and Training degree, Stephanie has been successful in applying to study her MSc in Teaching and Learning at Oxford University.

Career: Beauty Therapy Lecturer

Starting her studies with Level 2 at Penwith College, Stephanie progressed to her Level 3 at Truro College followed by her degree at the University Centre. Having experience running her own beauty business, Stephanie decided she wanted to get into teaching, and therefore started studying with the University Centre for her teaching qualification, graduating in 2021 from her Certificate in Education, enabling her to go straight into employment with a Beauty Therapy lecturing role at Truro College. Alongside her lecturing role, where Stephanie is also studying her BA (Hons) Education and Training with the University Centre.

Stephanie said: “The University Centre in Truro ensured I did not have to leave Cornwall to study Higher Education”

“There has always been accessible 1-1 support from the staff, and I have enjoyed challenging lectures delivered in different formats. I particularly enjoy the learner centred focus of the courses and the ability to offer feedback at regular intervals.”

“There was a positive atmosphere in the small class sizes with a focus on the individual learner and progress.”

“I was well supported throughout my study, including Covid lockdowns. I have taken part in student representative meetings, 1-1 tutorials and group discussions. Staff understand the learners have prior commitments as adult learners -expectations and deadlines are made very clear to support your learning and progress.”

“Undertaking Higher Education study at the Truro University Centre is for everybody. Staff and fellow learners are welcoming, all-inclusive and learning takes place in a supportive and forward-thinking environment. ”

“I use the skills from my Cert Ed and BA (Hons) in my workplace every day. Aside from workplace skills, my study has increased my personal skills for day to day life such as developing critical thinking skills and improving my writing style.”

Whilst studying her Education and Training degree, Stephanie, Stephanie has been successful in applying to study her MSc in Teaching and Learning at Oxford University. Speaking about her progression, Stephanie said: “My degree study has highlighted further questions surrounding teaching and learning processes, especially the experiences of Early Career Teachers. Expanding my own knowledge and practice will ensure excellence in my career and set an example of diligence and best practice to those whom I teach every day.”

“I have been supported through successfully applying to Oxford University for an MSc in Teaching and Learning by the University Centre through 1-1 tutorials and support with creating a CV and personal statement.”

“Master’s level study will enhance my development whilst supporting me to become a reflective, research-led practitioner. This will have a positive impact on the learners in my classroom and enhance collaboration with my colleagues, parents/carers, and other professionals in the OFSTED Outstanding team-teaching environment at Truro and Penwith College.”
