Prior to entering the education sector in 2004, Tom held managerial roles across health clubs within the Hilton Hotel Group, for a period of 4 years. Following this, Tom took on a role at Liverpool City College as NVQ Training assessor, progressing to area manager and then national account manager. Tom has gained qualifications in assessing, verifying and business management throughout his career. In 2014, Tom sought a new opportunity and challenge, relocating to Cornwall after accepting the role of Customer Development Manager at Truro and Penwith College. Tom’s role is to lead the Business Development Team with impact, drive, and determination to maintain outstanding teaching and learning across the College’s employer facing provision. Tom ensures his team have the knowledge and ability to work in partnership with local employers, responding to emerging opportunities and the challenges of change, to ensure future skills requirements of Cornwall’s businesses are met. Since joining the team, Tom has supported the development of a variety of initiatives and projects in collaboration with partners and employers. For his outstanding commitment to education, Tom was honoured with an invitation to the Queens Annual Garden Party in 2007. The Business Development Team describes Tom as a fair and respectful manager, who is able to have fun while maintaining good team dynamics and supporting individuals to reach their fullest potential. Tom is a voluntary trustee at the Cornwall Aviation Heritage Centre and volunteers as the business manager at Newquay Football Club, supporting the regeneration of its club house and helping to future proof the Club. In his spare time, Tom enjoys gardening and cooking with locally sourced ingredients and is passionate about ‘keeping it local’ to support the community and local trade.
