After leaving school, Tony completed an Apprenticeship in roof slating and tiling, continuing to work within construction for a further 10-years before moving into the educational sector as a construction liaison officer. Tony moved to Cornwall in 1996 and started a role as a training advisor within Further Education (FE).
Tony works with businesses of all types and sizes in his current role, predominantly within the construction industry and advises on training, development and funding opportunities available here in Cornwall. Tony believes the future requirements of the industry will continue to be based on traditional skills such as plastering, brick or block laying and carpentry. “Even with the introduction of modern materials there is still a need for traditional skills”, says Tony.
Outside of work Tony is a keen runner and runs for Cornwall AC across all disciplines, including cross country, track and road races from 800m to marathon distance. He has also represented Cornwall on numerous occasions and England four times with a fifth at the Bristol 10k. Tony is passionate about encouraging others to take up exercise, whether it is a Park Run or a brisk walk to maintain a healthy body.
